Try Some Shrug Therapy

Do not be quick in spirit to be angry or vexed, for anger and vexation lodge in the bosom of fools.
—Numbers 21:8

There are some things you can control in life—who your friends are, what you eat, and when you go to bed, for example. There are other things you can’t control, such as what other people say or the flat tire you got last night. The way you respond to things you can’t control helps determine your stress level and your quality of life and health. I have two suggestions about dealing with things you can’t control. First, if you can’t control them, don’t take responsibility for them. And second, I like to say, “Do your best, pray, and let God do the rest!”

People who regularly get upset over small things suffer in many ways. People who shrug them off do much better. Shrugging off certain things doesn’t mean you are indifferent; it simply means you’ve accepted the fact that you can’t do anything to change them at that time. The flat tire has already happened. Calling someone to come fix it makes sense; throwing a tantrum and kicking the tire does not. We need to deal appropriately with each stressor as it arises so that we don’t end up exploding in frustration over the unavoidable bumps on the road of life.

God works in mysterious ways. You never know when He may use some inconvenience or frustration for your good. He is in control, and if you trust Him to work things out, you’ll be able to ride the ups and downs of life with peace, joy, and strength.

Love Yourself Today: Refuse to live in frustration. Take life one day at a time, and when things happen that you don’t like, say, “It is what it is and God is still in control.”

Prayers Of Petition And Perseverance

You do not have, because you do not ask.
—James 4:2

God has provided a simple way for us to have the things we desire without struggling to get them. The verse for today says that we don’t have certain things because we do not ask God for them. A prayer cannot be answered if it is not prayed; therefore, we need to pray and ask. The type of prayer we pray when we make requests is called a prayer of petition—and this kind of prayer is important because God does not do anything in the earth unless somebody prays and asks. You see, we partner with Him through prayer. Prayer is simply the means by which we cooperate with Him and work with Him in the spiritual realm in order to get things done in the natural realm. Prayer brings the power of heaven to Earth.

If our prayers are not answered quickly, we may be asking for something that is not God’s will for us, or God may be waiting to answer because He is developing our faith and helping us build our spiritual muscles as we learn endurance and patience. We need to petition God and make our requests known to Him instead of trying to make things happen ourselves. We also need to trust His wisdom in how and when He answers. Prayer opens the door for God to work, but our trying to get things in our own effort only frustrates us and hinders God. He is waiting for us to ask and trust His ways and timing. When we do, He will work mightily on our behalf.

God’s word for you today: God wants to do more for you than you can imagine, so start asking boldly.

SUNDAY READERS: Quote of the Week – “The Safest Place In The World Is In God’s Will”

Gods will 2

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” – Hebrews 12:2

Don’t Be Average

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”
(Ephesians 3:20–21, NKJV)

TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria

God never created you to be ordinary. He created you to leave your mark on this generation. God wants you to do something big. He wants you to go further than anyone in your family. You have seeds of greatness on the inside. That yoke of average that’s been around your neck is coming off. God is about to thrust you to a new level of destiny. It’s going to be exceedingly, abundantly above and beyond what you could ever imagine! This is a new day, and you’re going to see the yoke-destroying, burden-removing power of our God like never before!

If you will receive this into your spirit and not talk yourself out of it, it will ignite your faith and become a reality. Let it go beyond being an encouragement and grab hold of it in your spirit. Believe, “This is for me. This is my destiny. Something new is being birthed. Yokes are coming off of me. Chains are being broken. I am stepping in to the fullness of my destiny!”

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Father, thank You for doing exceedingly, abundantly above all I could ask, think or imagine. Break the yoke of average off of my life and show me the amazing plan You have for my future in Jesus’ name. Amen.

SUNDAY READERS: Quote of the Week – “Listen To The Bible, Not Babble”

Babble 2

Keep reminding God’s people of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 16 Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly.” – 2 Timothy 2:14-16

The Power To Make A Change

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“I will praise the LORD at all times. I will constantly speak his praises.” (Psalm 34:1, NLT)

TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria

When you wake up in the morning, do you expect the goodness of God in your life? Do you set the tone of the day for success, favor and blessing? It doesn’t matter what happened yesterday, last week, last month or last year; today is a new day. This moment, you have the power to make a change in your life. Things may be bad all around you. People may be negative, complaining and discouraged, but don’t let that spirit rub off on you. Instead, choose to bless the Lord at all times. Let His praise continually be in your mouth. Remember, the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn shining brighter and brighter until the full day. Stay determined to set the tone for each new day by speaking words of faith over your future. As you do, you’ll enlarge your vision and make room for God to do amazing things in every area of your life!
