We all make mistakes.
We all miss it from time to time.
Nobody’s perfect; if there were such a thing as a perfect perfect then God would not have had to add 1 John 2:1 in the Bible which reads, My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
God knew, in advance, mankind was going to be prone to sin. Man was born with a sinfiul nature, as demonstrated by Adam and Eve, which was the reason God sent his only begotten Son, Jesus, to die for our sins so we don’t have to spend an eternity apart from Him.
However, I believe the difference between a Christian and the world when it comes to missing the mark or sinning against God is a Christian should never set out to sin or intentionally, in advance, plan that thing out while promising to “repent later” thus taking advantage of God’s grace.
Also, if we do miss it, God requires not only do we confess our sins, but that we also forsake them.
Take, for example, sexual sin, which I believe is something a lot of single Christians struggle with. There’s a difference between slipping up and having sex one night and feeling extremely guilty the next day as you repent and cry out to the Lord, then someone who has sex each week while having no guilty feelings at all yet still going to church on Sunday with their hands lifted up in praise carrying their Christian card.
That person may think they’re getting away with something simply because it’s done behind closed doors, but God sees all and knows all and, more than anything, He knows that person’s heart.
God would rather, if you miss it, immediately come to Him while intending on never making the same mistake twice.
He’d rather you fess up to the mistake, them flee from it, never to return to it again.
Of course His grace is always available if we miss it, even time and time again, but as believers we must believe that it is possible to trust and obey His Word in this area, give our cares and desires to Him and ask Him how to walk this thing out. He will show you how, if you honestly ask Him.
He’s also made several tools available such as in His Word.
Instead of making excuses for why we sin, let’s come up with reasons why not to sin.
God wants us as His beloved daughters not to continue in sin but to confess it and forsake it.
God sees your heart and He knows you better than you do, and loves you all the same.
…go, and sin no more. John 8:11b
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Psalm 119:11
For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief. Proverbs 24:16
