Yesterday evening I went to a Christmas soirée hosted by several of the local African-American professional business organizations. About 4-5 different groups held a Christmas party for all of its members and invited guests to attend.
Even though I didn’t feel like it, I decided to attend since these types of parties only happen once a year. I got all dressed up, including curling my hair & putting on some makeup and headed out to the event. At first I didn’t want to go. It’s wintertime so it’s cold outside; I had to drive a distance to get there; and I just really wasn’t in a party mood. But once I got there, boy, did I have a good time!
I saw people I hadn’t seen all year long, made some new connections and even had a good time on the dance floor. It seems like Christmas always brings out the best in people. Even those people who are going through personal challenges, recently faced a tragedy or are otherwise anti-social, there’s nothing like the holiday season to unite folks. I took lots of pictures, exchanged contact information & even heard about a few job offers (all out of the blue!). All because I went to a Christmas party!
I’m the type of person that thrives on social interaction with others. I love my alone time, don’t get me wrong. I have no problems with solitude but there’s just something about being around others & having a good time that really gets me charged.
So, you see, I don’t need drugs. I can get high just by being around other people!
