I woke up this morning around 7am and started cleaning. I scrubbed my hardwood floors, put away the dishes, disinfected the bathroom, cleaned out the refrigerator, finished 3 loads of laundry, dusted, vacuumed, emptied the garbage, cleaned my room, started on dinner and even rescued a cat out of a tree! Okay, I didn’t really start cooking dinner or rescue a cat but I have had a pretty busy morning. And this was all after I did my morning devotion and jogged 2 miles. After all of this and I was ready to take a nap in the middle of the day. Whew!
After doing all of this, I realized how much I don’t like to clean. It takes a lot of time & energy and consists of many lonely, boring tasks. There is nothing glamorous about scrubbing a toilet, getting Windex particles in your eye or cleaning the lint trap in the dryer. These are monotonous tasks that I can survive only with the help of some lively music in the background. I have to play my music loudly to keep my energy high and get my body going. Although it was considerably early, I turned my stereo up this morning so I could get myself into gear!
Admittedly, I don’t clean as often as I should not because I don’t have time, but because I don’t like to. I already know that the 1st order of business after I get married is to hire a housekeeper. I don’t like picking up after myself, let alone a husband. I used to think that I could force myself into becoming someone who likes to clean or at the very least someone who does it on a much more regular basis. That is just not who I am, and I am okay with that. But I definitely enjoy a clean home and was glad when my spring cleaning was finished.
Don’t get me wrong, my home is not unsanitary. I don’t have dirty dishes lying around or layers of dust on my furniture. I just have difficulty hanging up my clothes and putting away my paperwork on a regular basis. Of course, when I have company everything miraculously finds its place. Just this week, I was taught the 3 P’s: Pick it up, Put it back or Put it away, and I hope to put these into action as the year goes on.
One of my favorite quotes is “My place is not a mess, I just like to have everything on display all of the time.”
